Customary tenure rights under the Land and Forest Laws in Lao PDR (Lao)

This brief provides an overview of the main findings from the 2021 report titled “Assessing the New Land and Forest Laws in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic: Emphasizing Customary Rights.” It examines the incorporation of customary tenure into the revised Land and Forest Laws of 2019, considers the advancements made in these legislations, and succinctly outlines areas requiring further clarification within and between the laws. Additionally, it offers recommendations aimed at securing official recognition for customary land tenure systems in the Lao PDR.
