OUR RIGHTS TO LAND AND RESOURCES, OUR SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

In 1993, a Royal Decree for Protected Areas (PA) was issued to promote nature conservation in Cambodia. By the end of 2021, 41% of Cambodia’s national territory had been classified as PAs. While this is a welcome development for conservation, many PAs overlap with areas customarily used and managed by local communities long before the decree was issued. These communities depend on natural resources for their livelihoods and thus need access to these forests. This short documentary highlights the challenges of balancing nature conservation with the needs and rights of communities.
