State of Land webinar: Pathways to Responsible Agriculture in the Mekong

The Mekong Region Land Governance (MRLG) and The Land Portal Foundation are set to host the webinar “Pathways to Responsible Agriculture in the Mekong” on Thursday, 23 January 2025 3:00-5:00 pm Bangkok | 9:00-11:00 am CET, focusing on the significant agricultural transitions impacting rural livelihoods, forests, and ecosystems in the Mekong region. As industrial crops expand into marginal uplands and smallholder farmers become integrated into transnational value chains, these changes are rapidly transforming rural economies. However, this shift also poses challenges, including the exclusion of communities from their customary lands, increased deforestation, and heightened environmental risks. The session will take a close look into these transformations, governance challenges, and initiatives aimed at fostering responsible agricultural investments. Participants will gain evidence-based insights to inform decision-making and promote sustainable agriculture and tenure rights across the region. The webinar will be conducted in English, Khmer, Lao, and Vietnamese.

The State of Land in the Mekong Region webinar series is a collaborative effort by MRLG, the Land Portal Foundation, CDE at the University of Bern that spotlights the evolving landscape of land governance in the Mekong region. This series, set in the final phase of the MRLG project (2023-2025), aims to share insights and address challenges in land governance across four countries. Emphasizing openness and information accessibility, each webinar will explore key trends, issues, and solutions in land governance.
